Welcome to The Mad Science Notebook. My name is Phil and I’m addicted to electronics and automation. I’ve been playing around with electronics since I was a teenager. I have an Engineering Degree from Texas A & M University, but not in electronics, other than a few basic classes and some electives I am self taught in electronics.

In the last house my wife and I lived in, we built a room in one part of the attic. Because of all the A/C vents and the roof line it had a really strange shape. Also, to access the room you had to go through the back of a closet. Because it was such a wierd room and since I was always in there cooking up something, my wife called it my “Mad Scientist Lab.” That is where I came up with the idea for the name of this website.

I’m going to try to make this website the first place to go for small embedded automation projects and I’ll also document anything else that I find interesting. I have found that sometimes, the most difficult information to find online is the simplest. It seems that there is a certain assumption of knowledge. I’ll try not to assume anything. I’m going to start off with basic tutorials and I hope that as I go along I’ll learn a lot and as I learn I’ll post more advanced stuff.

I hope that you find this site useful and if you find any information that is incorrect please let me know. If you have any information that you would like to see published or if you have any questions please feel free to ask.
